Stella Capes

The Fallen Saved, 2008

Selected by Rebecca May Marston

There is a succinct circularity to the process of art becoming life, before becoming art again. In her photographic series The Fallen Saved, Stella Capes has staged five lone actors acting as cadavers; they seem to have just died on stage in a real-life twist of fate. Throughout her practice there is a dark side to Capes’ subjects. Here, surreally coincidental death contexts are poignantly illustrated with stark, crisp, spectacular photographs. Capes has also amended the play scripts displayed on their side, weaving the actors’ demise into the plays’ original narratives.

Stella Capes

The Fallen Saved, 2008

Sélectionné par Rebecca May Marston
